3 Signs You May Have Cataracts

The first step to getting the surgical attention you need is establishing whether you have cataracts or not. Although we encourage you to visit our practice for a thorough eye examination, there are various signs that can indicate you're dealing with cataracts. In healthy eyes, your lenses are clear and allow you to view the world without obstructions. Cataracts, however, are the clouding of your eyes' lenses and can make it seem like you're looking through a frosty or foggy window. Even though cataracts develop slowly, it's crucial that you address them as soon as possible, as they can result in blindness without treatment.

Some of the most common signs that you may require our Modesto cataract treatment include:

  1. Halos Around Lights: One of the most common signs of cataracts is when headlights and streetlamps appear to have a starburst or halo around them. Typically, you'll notice it the most when you're driving at night.
  2. Double Vision: Certain images may have a ghost or mirrored image next to them. If you close one eye at a time and still see double vision, you may have cataracts in one or both eyes.
  3. Faded Colors: Humans naturally have good color vision and can discern up to 10 million different colors. When you have cataracts, however, it can seem like you're looking at your world through a tinted brownish filter.

Our Cataract Removal Surgery Process

At Modesto Eye Center, we've spent years improving our cataract removal surgery process to be as effective and safe as possible. When you visit our office for your initial consultation, we'll work to determine if you have one or multiple cataracts and, if so, whether you're an ideal candidate for removal. However, if you're in poor health or have a serious medical condition like macular degeneration, it may not be safe for you to undergo surgery.

If our doctor gives you the green light, our team will start by measuring you for new lenses. You can rest assured that we have options that can eliminate astigmatism, near-sightedness, and farsightedness so that you don't need corrective glasses after your procedure. We perform the procedure one eye at a time, taking at least a week in between them to allow the first eye to heal. By lightly sedating you, we'll remove your cloudy lenses and replace them with intraocular lenses made from high-strength silicone or other acrylic materials. As an outpatient procedure, you'll be sent home on the same day as your appointment.

Cataracts FAQs

If you have any questions about our services, our team is here for you. Our team will take the time to answer your questions and help you make confident and informed health decisions. Some of the most frequently asked questions about our Modesto cataract treatment include:

Can I go home the same day as my procedure?

As an outpatient procedure, you'll be sent home the same day as your appointment. You'll be provided special sunglasses that help protect your eyes as they heal.

Cataract surgery takes roughly 15 minutes to complete. However, it normally takes 2 hours from when you check in to when you check out.

Cataract removal surgery causes little to no discomfort in patients. If, however, you feel discomfort following your procedure, we recommend over-the-counter pain relievers.
